Bmw Concept X6 - Design Sketch

  • Defined by Bmw as the first "Sports Activity Coupé", the Concept X6 combines a dynamically flowing roofline with the typical features of a BMW X model.

:::: Concept ::::
  • The X6 also showcases the new Dynamic Performance Control, a drivetrain and chassis control system, combined with BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive technology, that offers a high driving stability in every situation, by varying the distribution of drive forces between the wheels.

  • The Bmw Concept X6 combines four doors and a dynamically flowing coupé roofline with a high sill-line, muscular wheel arches, and a strong centre of gravity positioned right in the middle and making a clear reference to four-wheel-drive technology.
  • The front end is dominated by highlights in design clearly symbolising the car’s dynamic orientation to the road.
  • From the side, the short front body overhang emphasises the dynamic appearance, the long overhang at the rear, its stretched and sleek look.

  • The roofline, in turn, flows down gently to the rear spoiler, finally moving up again slightly in a small upward swing perfecting the overall line of a coupé and at the same time optimising the car’s aerodynamic qualities
  • Apart from the high window line, the large wheel arches and the centre of gravity visibly in the middle of the car, the profile is characterized by the interaction of convex and concave surfaces, the muscular side-sills with running boards made of drilled aluminium beneath the doors and the strong underfloor protection elements.

  • The large air intake scoops positioned far to the outside show a clear orientation, together with the side panels extending far to the inside beyond the headlights, to the wheels, emphasising the car stability.

  • The outer contours of the dual round headlights units extend far into the side panels, making the front overhang look shorter than it really is and giving the vehicle an even more sporting and dynamic appearance from the side

:::: Rear end ::::

Bmw Concept X6

  • The rear end of BMW Concept X6 features a muscular bumper and the protective underfloor panel, which are classic design elements of a BMW X car.
  • The rear lights, in their design re-interpret the L-shape of BMW’s X models and add a dynamic, sweeping line. Extending far into the side walls, the rear lights again express the full width of the car also through its night design.

Mercedes-Benz F700

:::: Merc :: B :: F700 ::::

  • Mercedes-Benz's proposal for a futuristic and environment-friendly luxury saloon.

Mercedes-Benz F700 Concept

  • For the first time in this class, the powertrain features a compact engine which allows for really low fuel consumption values and integrates a compact hybrid module with an electric motor.
  • Indeed, the engine is a 1.8 liters 4-cylinders gasoline unit, which showcases the so-called "Diesotto" cycle, combining controlled auto ignition (CAI), direct fuel injection and turbocharging, for a total output of 238 hp (+20 hp by the electric motor), comparable to that of a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine.
  • As a result, the F700 can reach more-than-acceptable performances (a top speed limited to 200 km/h and a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.5 seconds)
  • An average fuel consumption of 53.3 mpg (23.8 km per liter).

:::: The PRE-SCAN suspension ::::

  • Two laser scanners scan the roadway in front of the car and send data to the active suspension system which hydraulically compensates for detected hindrances, greatly improving the comfort.

:::: Exterior Design ::::

  • The design of the F700 Concept is characterized by soft, flowing forms.
  • The design language, named “Aqua Dynamic”translates the flow dynamics of a fish into the exterior shape of an automobile - using an idea that was at the base of the Bionic Car concept vehicle, unveiled in 2005.

:::: Features ::::

  • With an overall exterior length of 5.18 m the F 700 is a little shorter than the current long-wheelbase version of the S-Class, but with the wheelbase of 3.45 m excels the production model by 28.5 cm
  • The side view is marked by the tense curves of the roof contour and shoulder line, with lateral lines similar to those of the current CLS.
  • The distinctively shaped front wheel arches likewise are inspired by the S‑Class.
  • The headlamps are a futuristic interpretation of the Mercedes-typical twin-headlamp face. Two vertical rows of linear LED arrays with superposed lens have the function of driving lights.
  • A third vertical row of single high-performance LEDs are the daytime driving lights.
  • The headlamps integrate laser scanners that gather the roadway data for the active PRE-SCAN suspension. A similar scanner is located in the base of the mirror of the door and examines the area in which the door swings open for any obstacles.

Mercedes-Benz F700 Concept

  • The extremely spacious and flexible interior concept is emphasized by two large glazed areas in the roof.
  • The right rear door of the F 700 is hinged at the rear. Reversing the direction in which the door opens makes it easier to get into the REVERSE seat, which is the heart of the new seating concept: it permits individual seat and rest positions, both facing the direction of travel and in the opposite direction.

  • Mercedes F700 Concept - design sketch

  • The official design sketches and photos from the clay modeling and prototype construction processes of the F700 Concept, unveiled by Mercedes at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.
  • The styling of the F700 took shape in the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in Irvine, California.

  • The basic form of the F 700 is inspired by nature.
  • “The research cars might be called the free program of the Design unit." says Professor Peter Pfeiffer, Senior Vice President Design, Mercedes Car Group.
  • "The impact of formal elements can be tested in them without having a direct bearing on a coming production vehicle.”

Below are official image galleries from the design sketching phases, and clay model construction.
